Ravi’s mother gave him Rs. 1000 and asked him to go shopping
for her. Here’s what she wanted:
- 2 kilos of rice
- 1.5 kilos of sugar
- 4 meters of white cotton cloth
- One dozen bananas
Ravi reminded his mother that he also wanted some stationery
items, and his mother agreed. So, Ravi added the following items to his list:
- 2 long notebooks
- 1 foot-long ruler
- 3 pencils
- 1 eraser
Ravi went to the shopkeeper and gave him the list. Ravi
noticed that the prices of each commodity was listed on the board near the
shop. Here’s what he saw:
- Rice: Rs. 44.50 per kilo
- Sugar: Rs. 60 per kilo
- Cotton Cloth: Rs. 120 per meter
Ravi did not see bananas on the list, but he was afraid to
ask. So he kept quiet.
When Ravi got the stationery items, he saw the following rates
on them:
- Long Notebook: Rs. 65.50 each
- Foot-Long Ruler: Rs. 30
- Pencils: Rs. 2:50 each
- Eraser: Rs. 2
He bought all the items he needed, but realized he didn’t
have a bag for them. So he bought two bags from the shopkeeper at the rate of
Rs. 15 each.
If the shopkeeper sold Ravi bananas at the rate of Rs. 2.50
per banana, how much money did Ravi return to his mother?
